National Day Rally - Our reflections

One line from PM Lawrence Wong’s National Day Rally stayed with us:

“One of the greatest gifts we can give parents is more time with their children.”

More time with our children matters.

But so does what we do with that time.

As parents, we document so much of our children’s lives.

Their first day of school.

Birthdays.

Family holidays.

Funny videos.

Thousands of photos.

But how often do we document ourselves for our children?

What did we believe when they were four?

What were we worried about?

What mistakes did we make?

What did becoming a parent teach us?

What would we want them to know about us 20 or 30 years from now?

We believe journaling doesn't have to be only about recording your life for yourself.

Journal for the people who may one day want to understand you.

Our children may inherit thousands of our photos and videos.

Perhaps they should inherit some of our thoughts, stories and life lessons too.

Because one of the most meaningful things we can leave behind isn't necessarily something we own.

It's a little bit of who we were.

So here's something simple you can do tonight:

Write one thing you learned about being a parent this year.

Something you'd want your child to read 20 years from now.

That's one of the reasons we built HRTG app a private, encrypted space to record the thoughts, memories and life lessons you want to carry forward.

If this idea resonates with you, you're welcome to start your first entry at

www.hrtgapp.com.

More time with our children is a gift.

Preserving a little of ourselves for their future can be one too.

The food we always ate together. The little family traditions that felt completely ordinary at the time. But one day, these ordinary moments will become part of their history. Photos help us remember what happened. Stories help our loved ones understand what those moments meant. So this National Day, perhaps take...
