Why You Will Never Feel Ready to Be a Parent

For all the young parents out there—let's dive into this common feeling.
Becoming a parent is one of the most transformative experiences in life. And yet, no matter how much we read, plan, or prepare, we often feel completely unprepared when the moment finally arrives. Here’s the truth: you will never feel ready to be a parent. And that’s okay.
1. The Myth of Being “Ready”
Before becoming parents, we often hear people say, “You’ll know when you’re ready.” But what does that really mean? Life doesn't come with a checklist that, once completed, guarantees you’re prepared to raise a little human. No matter how organized you are, or how many parenting books you’ve read, there’s always that lingering question: Am I ready for this?
The truth is, being a parent means stepping into the unknown. There's no manual to navigate the sleepless nights, unpredictable tantrums, or emotional rollercoasters that parenting brings. It's about learning as you go—sometimes the hard way—and that’s perfectly normal.
2. Every Child Is Different
Just when you think you've got everything figured out, your child will surprise you. No two kids are alike, and what works for one won’t always work for another. It’s impossible to prepare for every personality, temperament, or situation you’ll encounter. Embracing that unpredictability is part of the parenting journey.
3. You’re Growing Alongside Your Child
While your child is growing up, you’re growing too. Parenting forces you to evolve—emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually. Many young parents find that their worldview shifts after having a child, and with each stage of your child’s life, you’ll continue to grow in ways you never expected.
4. Perfection Isn’t the Goal
A major reason we feel unready is because we have unrealistic expectations of what parenting should look like. We see perfect families on social media, but those are just snapshots of polished moments. The reality is far messier and more complex. You will make mistakes, lose your patience, and question your decisions. But those moments don’t define you as a parent. Your love, effort, and ability to keep trying are what matter most.
5. The Power of Adaptability
Parenting teaches you the art of adaptability. The sleepless nights will test your endurance, while the small everyday moments—like seeing your child smile or hearing them call you "Mom" or "Dad" for the first time—will remind you that you’re doing okay. In the chaos, you’ll find joy and meaning in ways you never anticipated.
6. Support Networks Matter
You don’t have to do it alone. Whether it's your partner, family, friends, or online communities, having a support system can make all the difference. Sharing experiences with others who have walked the same path can help ease the pressure of feeling like you need to have it all figured out.
In the end, no one ever feels truly “ready” to become a parent, and that's because parenting isn't something you can fully prepare for—it's something you experience. The beauty of it lies in learning and growing with your child, discovering new parts of yourself, and embracing the unknown.
So, to all the young parents out there: it’s okay to feel uncertain, overwhelmed, and unready. You’re in good company. Just remember, every day, you’re doing your best—and that’s more than enough.

Breaking the Language Barrier to Understanding the Qur'an For many Muslims, learning to read the Holy Qur'an is an important part of growing up. But understanding it is often a different journey altogether. One of the biggest barriers is language.
